The Season of Love or Whatever

The Valentine's ads have started. I'm the kind of the person who chooses the "with ads" option to save a few dollars per month on a streaming subscription, so even though I don't watch cable, I can't escape them. "Show the special person in your life how much you care with this overpriced piece of jewelry!"
I don't want to be one of those bitter people who suddenly hates Valentine's Day just because I'm single now, but I would be lying if I said that I didn't have some of those feelings. I have a lot of conflicting emotions at the moment, and it's hard. After being with someone for seven years, being broken up for a few months feels like nothing. I haven't moved on, I'm not over it. It's going to hurt for a long time, and that's okay. I accept that.
But I refuse to sulk and pity myself for a full month. I will be my own valentine this year. I will love myself extra hard to make up for the man who has chosen not to. I will prioritize my self-care, and I will take care of my own needs. We often focus on romantic love around Valentine's Day, but there are so many kinds of love. Love for your family, love for your friends, love for your pets, love for your hobbies, love for yourself. Whatever kind of love you have in your life, celebrate it.
XO

Is there a friend fund where I can donate to help you treat yourself? Vday is always an awkward one. I don't like it, but they do have a lot of fun stuff for sale. But you're absolutely right. There's so many more people to celebrate your love of, why focus on just the romantic love? =D
